Pre-Production Paperwork-Miss B

Pre-Producion Paperwork

In our group we have created 5 piece of  pre-production paper work which is made up of location release, location reecce, risk assessment, client release form and camera shot list. Each of these documents are important as it shows that our group have permission for example shooting a scene on a street, if someone asks what are we doing or if we are aloud we would give them the location reecce form. This is important as if you don't have the documents we are not able to film and also avoid problems as we could get complaints from people. I will be explaining each of these paperwork and why they are important.

Location Reecce
As a group we have decided where to locate our scene. So it is important that everyone in our production should have these documents as it includes all the information including the location and other reasons for the location. This is an example of my group Location Reecce

Location Release Form
]This is where the legal document is to be shown to the people who question our production. This includes the information about having permission to film at the area we want to film at and also it include that the group have agreed to the terms and conditions so that the community of that area will know that we are aware of what we should and should not do. This is our Location Reecce Form

Risk assessment

The risk assessment is also a legal document that explains that our group is aware of the risks that might happen. Everyone in our production should have this as it will warn them about their health and safety and how they will deal with that issue. This is the Risk assessment that our group did

Production skills

This should be given to everyone in my group as it helps them understand what is expected from them when making the film for example in this document it includes the days we are filming, how long it will take etc.. This is a straight forward document which means there wont be anyone in my group ot knowing what they are doing since it all says in he document. This is the document that my group had made

Client Release Forms

This is to be handed out the actors  has this document is to thank them that they joined my production group and to also give them a guide about what my group and i expect from them such as learning the script or coming early to get their hair, make-up and costume done. Also the actors will have to agree on my production terms before filming.

Planning- Shot List-Miss B

Camera Shot List

The Camera shot list included the size, angles a movements during our filming, This is an example of my groups shot list as it helps when we are making the film that when the the camera operator  and storyboard manager knew that they are following the angle/size and movements. This basically makes the whole filming easier as they just have to follow the order.

Prelimirary task-Mr.Smith

Preliminary task

The purpose of preliminary task?

The purpose of the preliminary task is that we learn how to use and understand the camera and how it operates. As we operate the camera  we learn and experiment with the equipment's and test how the equipment's are suppose to be used and how it could be properly done. Also this is to ensure the safety. When testing the equipment's you will know what to use or what parts are important as for when we make the film.  As we test the equipment's we have to look at certain aspects of the main parts such s dangerous voltages. This is important as it is a test before making the film as you will know how it operates and what the camera is suppose to do.

The Plot

We was told by our teacher that the preliminary filming should be 30 seconds long. As  a group we have decided that the plot we would film would be two young teenagers who are in school talking at the backstairs. The young male talks about if the young female is she has any planes and she says she doesn't, then the young male asks if she wants to go to the cinema and she says yes. As they walk down the stairs before that he asks that he will pick her up at 7 O'clock. They then go they're own separate ways.

group roles

In our group we each have different role of this preliminary task.
Fatma: she was the camera operator as she knows how to use the camera and understood what the shots and movements was to be done in the film. Also she was also the director because she wanted to direct me and Mohidin to make sure we know what we are doing.

Mohidin: he was a young male who was asking out another young female.

Me: I was an actresses who was asked out by a you male.

Lara: was the producer of the preliminary task as she is good with group work and can operate with Fatma.

Difficulties you encounter when film/editing?

The difficulties my group have encountered is that we didn't know how to operate the camera and also didn't know how to do the equipment's properly. Also another thing we found difficult encountering is that we needed to find the right area as we wanted a quiet place to film. When Editing it was difficult as it was our first time editing and as we wanted to look professional but it was hard to know what to do as we was experimenting with the equipment. There was some parts of the scene where it looked unrealistic for example the shots didn't make sense as it moved to one place to another which didn't look professional and also there was a lot of echoing when the characters was talking, We tried to get rid of the echoing but it didn't work. The lighting was difficult because we couldn't edit it as we couldn't see the characters face properly.

What have you learned?

When doing the preliminary task i have learnt how to use the equipment as for next time my group  and i wont be struggling when making the thriller film. I have learnt how to operate the camera and how to connect the camera to the tri-pod. This is what we was struggling with when doing the preliminary task and the results from that made the filming look unprofessional.  Overall my group now know how to use the equipment which helps when we use the cameras when film making the thriller opening scene. Without the preliminary task we wouldn't of had experimented the equipment which was useful for us as it makes our film opening scene more successful,

Conclusion

I thought that the preliminary task was very beneficial as it helped me gain knowledge of how to use the equipment correctly and also helped me improve my people skills as i helped it a lot when Fatma (camera operator) was struggling.

Planning- Micro-elements- Mr.Smith

Cinematography:

1. the first movement will be panning shot as it will be when the professor is sitting at the desk looking a lot a laptop of the women. This will make it look clear as the audience will understand what the professor is looking at and also what is happening in that scene. This will make the audience want to know what is going on as the professor has a good intention and also is the protagonist in the film. But as this makes the audience understand what the professor is doing, they don't know what he is looking at which will create suspense as they want to know more. This is conventional to the thriller genre as it is clear to the audience and also introduces a character.

2. When the professor is observing the women on the laptop i will be using an over the shoulder shot as the audience know what the professor is watching and also let the audience understand the story line as they will learn more abut the demented women. This is conventional to the thriller genre as this will build an understanding about the character.

3. after the over the shoulder shot i will be using close-up shot so the audience could see the demented women reaction to the flashbacks so the audience could see her feelings and emotions and also how her emotions and feelings transforms in each flashbacks. The audience response to that will be sympathy as they know how she ended up in a mental institution.

4. A fade to white will be used when the anti-hero will come back from reality when she had her flashbacks. When she comes back from reality the audience will see her reaction which makes the audience more curious as she feels guilt about her past so we see her current state

5. I will be using a long shot as the anti-hero door opens. This will allow the audience to see door at a full length and also builds tension and excitements as the audience want to see who is opening the door. This is conventional to a thriller genre as this will leave the audience unexpected , shocked and also will leave them will suspense and tension.

6. A point of view will be used when the antagonist founds out about the presence. This creates sympathy to the audience as they know the antagonist is in a difficult situation so the response from the audience will be wanting to know what's going to happen next this is suspense.

7.High angle will be used when the anti-hero finds out that she is pregnant as she is looking at the pregnancy test This will make her look venerable as this is clear to audience that she was in shock as she found out about her pregnancy test and also will make the audience find out what will happened to the anti-hero.

8. Tilt shot will shot is when the antagonist enters the room as the audience see the victim comes back as a ghost. This will create shock an suspense as the scene finally is revealed about what was going on. The anti-hero will feel threatened and scared as the antagonist comes closer towards the anti-hero. This will create a twist in the plot.

9. Extreme long shot will be used when the anti-hero shoots the antagonist. This will leave the audience shocked and confused as the reason but at the same time is clear that the audience understand that the female has been shot. This is conventional to a thriller genre as it is a murder scene which creates a twist and also tension.

Sound:

Sound is important in the film making as it builds tension and also give the audience an understanding about the plot.

1. Diegetic sound is used as when the anti-hero shoots the antagonist. This is because the audience expects to hear the shooting of the gun. The outcome of that will be that the audience is shocked about the shooting scene and also creates suspense and tension as they want to know what happens next. This is conventional to a thriller as you are expected to heart the gun shot.

2. On screen sound will be used when the anti-hero cries. The audience will realize when she cries that she is demonstrating her guilt and shows her emotions as she regretted killing the antagonist. This is conventional to a thriller genre as she needs to cries to shows her emotions.

3. Parallel sound ill be used when the anti-hero and the lover are caught by the antagonist. As the antagonist see her lover with a women she gasps and is in shock. This is conventional to a thriller as this is expected from the antagonist to be in shock and to gasp.

4. Non-diegetics sound used as there will be soundtracks used in the fill as the antagonist approaches to the anti-hero in the mental institution room. This demonstrates that the anti-hero is threatened by the antagonist as the anti-hero moves away. This is clear that the antagonist comes to get revenge. This is conventional to a thriller genre as the non-diegetic sounds helps to build up the tension and suspense in the scene and also gets the audience curious as the scene ends.

5. Off screen sound will be used when the characters are out in public and the traffic sound will be used to make the audience know that they are out on the streets. This is conventional a thriller genre as the audience will have a connection as some may have had a relationship out of on the streets.

Editing is important hen creating a film as you will need to ensure that each shot are done very well and may include different shots and make sure the audience will have a the attention of the editing is suppose to attract them with clear understanding.

1. Slow editing will be used when the antagonist enters the room slowly as this will create tension and feel very chilling because the audience don't know what will happen next. This is conventional to a thriller genre as this is a suspense feeling and is suppose to be exciting as the audience doesn't know what is going to happen next.

2. Reaction shot will be used when the antagonist catches her lover with a women. The audience will see the shock on the antagonist face and the audience will understand what is going on because of her reaction. The audience will know what is going on and give sympathy towards the antagonist as some may relate to her.

3. shot reverse shot will be when the antagonist walks toward the room. This allows the audience to see both characters to see the emotions and reaction as this will create even more tension. This is conventional o a thriller as  this will attract the audience will want to find out more

4. Fade to white will be used when the anti-hero is having flashbacks. This give the audience an idea of why she is in a metal institution and what has happened to her. They will understand her ituatuion and also connect with her as she expresses her feelings. This is conventional to a thriller genre as this will help the audience understand what is going on i the plot and also help the audience to aviod any confusion.

5. Fast editing will be used when the women is in the plain white room acting very dementaed as her mind isn't in the right set. This will bring a connection towards the audience as she exprersses her feelings by acting i out. This is conventional to a thriller genre as fast editing helps to brig out tension and suspense.

Conclusion

I have understood the micro-elements (cinematography, sounds, editing) is important when creating a film as it helps to create feelings towards the audience such as suspense which will b the outcoe of our film towards the audience, We will be including these thongs which will be conventional to a thriller genre.

Planning-Mise En Scene-Mr Smith

Setting:

Our group have decided that we will have three different location at school, falcon street and Hobby street. The school setting will be when The pregnant women find out that weather she is pregnant or not. The Hobby street will be when the shooting scene will happen and the Falcon Street will be when the antagonist founds out that her lover is having an affair. We will also be shooting in school. It will be a white small room as that represents a mental institution. That setting will be shot when the anti-hero is acting strangely. And also when the antagonist comes back as a ghost and comes towards the anti-hero. These setting will all represent each scene.

Costume, Hair and Make-up:

The anti- hero will be dressed in grey normal top as that will represent her innocence's but also show the audience that she has a split personality.  The anti-hero make-up will be neutral in different scenes as that will also show her that she might be a victim. The hair will in different scenes for example the first flashback will be she is happy about her flashback so her make-up will be neutral and hair will be in a ponytail, then when she comes back from the flash back her hair is messy/frizzy and her mascara and eyeliner will be smudges. The second flashback will when she is a caught with a affair her hair will be in a bun and make up will be simple, then when she comes back from that flashback her hair will still be frizzy/messy and mascara and eyeliners will be smudged and smeared down her face from the crying. The last flashback will be when she kills the antagonist her make-up will look like she is tired and her hair won be neat, when she comes back from that flashback her will still look messy and her make-up will be smeared all over her face from he crying. The professor will wear normal clothing and a white lab coat, This is will represents his good intention and that the professor is intelligent. The hair will be messy and shot and will have a clear face. The antagonist will have normal clothing during the flashbacks, will having different hair styles during the flashback and also have neutral make-up. But when she comes back as a ghost and enters the room she wears a white long dress and will have long messy hair that will partly cover her face, her make up will be pale with under bag and her eyes will look like blood which will leave the audience with suspense.

Lighting:

The lighting we will be using will consist with low key, under tone and black and white flashes. The first scene we will be using under lighting to make the audience see the scene more clear and what is happening to the anti-hero as she behaves strange, this will also be a low lighting when the protagonist looks at the laptop as he is observing the anti-hero. The lighting will also show the protagonist intention that he does not want to harm the women but wants to observe the anti-hero. There will be another low lighting key when the anti-hero behavior changes to demonstrate her feelings toward the audience to make it clear as she goes into flashback to show how she was in a metal institution.

Iconography:

There will be different iconography to represent what is going on in each scene. In the first scene there will be a desk, stationary, laptop that  suggests that the protagonist has Knowledge  and is observing something when he is looking at the laptop. The professor also has images of a women n the  background. This makes he audience question what the man is observing and why. In a white plain room there is a demented women with a tray that include a glass of water and half eaten food. This represents that the women is to disturbed to be eating food and also the chair that is going to support the tray. The lack of iconography kin this scene helps the audience focus ore on the character the  whats is around character. The anti-hero will have flashbacks. The first flashback iconography is the anti-hero lover handing a rose. The audience understand that they are in a relationship but also see the antagonist finding out her lover is cheating and that will create tension. The second flashback is   the anti-hero finding out she is  pregnant when she is in the bathroom holding a pregnant test. pregnancy test as she finds out that she is pregnant. The final flash back will be the anti-hero shooting the antagonist with a gun. This is unexpected form the audience  which creates tension and suspense.

Body language and Facial expression

The anti-hero has different body language and facial expression. When the anti-hero is in the metal institution her body language is very unstable as she is jumping around and screaming whereas her facial expression is her crying and very confusing to the audience as they don't know what to expect. The ant-hero first flashback her body language is very calm and she has a good posture. The anti-hero facial expression is happy ass that shows she is in a happy relationship with her boyfriend but when  she is caught by the antagonist she becomes worried. The second flashback is when she does a pregnancy test and founds out she is pregnant, Her facial expression is extremely happy as she founds out she s pregnant but also crying as it is unexpected for her. The body language of the anti-hero is she is slouching as she is looking at the pregnancy test. The final flashback the anti-hero body language is her posture is very slouched posture as she murdered the antagonist. The anti-hero facial expression is very worries and scared as she comes to milling the antagonist
The professor body language is a good posture when looking at the laptop and and having a confused and also curious facial expression as he is looking at the laptop. The response from the audience is curiosity as they want to know what the professor is looking at.
The antagonist facial expression will be shock as she finds out her lover is cheating and also her body language will be very still as she is shock and doesn't know what to do. When  the shooting scene happens the antagonist will be killed so she doesn't really have a facial expression just still face,  as this will make it clear that she is dead, her body language will be also still/frozen as she is represented as a dead women.

Conclusion:

I have included each elements that will be in my thriller. When my group and i make our film we will be looking back at this so we make sure we include everything. What i have included in this post is what my group and i have discussed in detail making sure that it will attract the audience attention by Creating suspense and excitement.
