Evaluation: Q7) Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Evaluation: Question 7) Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

The preliminary task was beneficial for the my group as it helped us experiment with the technologies and equipment. The reason for the preliminary task was that it would help my group understand how to use technologies when filming our thriller opening sequence. This is important as if there is n't a preliminary task our group wouldn't be able to know how to use the technologies and equipment's, in order to film our thriller opening sequence. The story of the preliminary was about two young teenagers planning out their date in a place where nobody is. The whole point of this preliminary task is to compare  and see what we have improved on with the thriller opening sequence. This means that the preliminary task is able to be identified at what needs to be improved on in order for the group and i to avoid any mistakes we have done in the preliminary.  The aim of a preliminary task was to see how we could create a a high standard thriller opening sequence by discovering and experimenting equipment that will be needed when creating a thriller movie.

When doing the preliminary task I am now more confident with the terms of filming and editing. The reason why I feel as if I am confident doing the preliminary task is because my group and I have built an understanding of different technologies that are used in a movie. This is beneficial as  my group understand what we should avoid and what we will need to improve when creating a thriller film.

What I am confident doing in terms of filming and editing:

Filming-  In the preliminary task we have learnt how to frame different shots. This was beneficial for the group and I as now we are comfortable to include different shots in the thriller opening sequence. For example this shot is a over-the-shoulder shot. This is conventional to a thriller film because the audience wants to see what the professor is looking at.

Editing
-  In the final product I am confident with avoiding any basic editing and making sure that there are transitions that will make the thriller look better. We have learnt that our preliminary task had basic editing. We made sure that we was comfortable and able to use Final Cut Pro X in order to use transitions efficiently in the thriller film. We have used one of the transitions, white to fade colour to represent flashbacks. This had fit perfectly for our film as we needed this transition to represent the past of the character, Ivy.

Filming- When experimenting with equipment for our preliminary task, I am now more comfortable with using the equipment such as the cameras and tri-pod. In our final product we understood how to operate the camera properly and also knew how to use the tri-pod efficiently.

Editing- In the final product we have edited the lighting to make the thriller film  look more realistic. I am more comfortable with creating a dark lighting. This will be conventional to a thriller film as it is expected that there is a character that look more scary. For example Ivy.

Comparing the preliminary task to the final product we have changed significantly. As you can see the preliminary task the shot size was accurate but there was a lot of unwanted space. I know this as the audience will not be concentrating on the two people and instead will be looking at the unwanted space. This was irrelevant to the scene. My group and I made sure that we have avoided this situation in the final production. On the right you can see that the shot being framed at the character (Ivy). You can see that space is balanced out, this means that the character will be more focused.

Comparing the preliminary task to the final production my group and I  have changed at editing. In the preliminary task you see how our lighting and effects was basic. The reason for this was that we wasn't confident in using the Final Cut Pro X. But if you look to your right you will see a huge difference in editing. We made sure that we include effects and low lighting in order for the movie to look scary. This is conventional to a thriller film as it is expected that a thriller genre should contain effects in order for it to look scary.

Comparing the preliminary task to the final product you will see how we have changed in camera positioning. If you look to your left you will see that in our preliminary task the acting on and actions on camera  did not look professional as the characters was waiting while the camera was being recorded. On the right you can see that the final production, the acting of the character was being recorded showing it was unexpectedly.

Personal reflection

I believe that my group and I finial production was successful. We know this because we have done our secondary and primary research in order to know how to create a successful movie. We made sure that our audience was attracted by our thriller opening sequence. We have included what was appropriate in order for our viewers to continue watching the final production. By making sure that the thriller movie would be professional we had to make sure we use professional technologies such as Final Cut Pro X. As a group we made sure that we all had a group role that we stick to in order to create a successful movie and also to make sure nothing goes wrong. We made sure that we had a planning and research in order to create a professional thriller movie. Over all my group and I have made sure we have the correct thriller conventions in order for the audience to continue watching the thriller opening sequence.
What I have enjoyed the most was being the make-up artist. I have chosen this role because I was able to represent the character through the make-up. I have enjoyed this because it was very practical and was able to experiment make-up. This was conventional to a thriller film as the audience are expecting the make-up to represent the character. For example the character Lara make-up made her look very tired, which represents that she is in a metal institution .
I have also enjoyed doing the preliminary task. This is because the task was very practical and new for me. The reason why I  have enjoyed it was because I was acting. This is something out of my comfort zone. This is also the reason why I have enjoyed it because I tried out something new. Also the preliminary task helped me understand what is expected when creating the thriller production.
I have felt as what could of been improved in our thriller production was that there wasn't any action. Also what could of been improved on was the camera movements wasn't at high standards. What I also felt that could of been improved was there could of been a perspective for the antagonist, as she wasn't represented properly.

Evaluation: Question 5) How did you attract/address your targetaudience?

Evaluation: Question 5) how did you attract/address your target audience?

The importance of doing secondary research into your existing films is that it helps to find the right target  audience and also find our new information about target audience. This will help you gain more attention as it attracts the audience. From this secondary research it helped me understand who my target audience was. The importance of a secondary research was to see what the audience would enjoy and also for my group to decide what to put into our thriller film. This would be beneficial for my group as. My target audience age is between 15 and over as they are attracted to thriller the most as they tend to watch them a lot. This means that that the audience will be more likely to watch the film ‘insanity’.   Also we have different type of ethnic groups that are still in education. The reason for this is because they are at the age where they would be excited for these type of genres in movies. This is an advantage as they would be likely to watch our thriller film. In comparison to the older generation ( 40+) might not watch out thriller film. This may be because they are not interested in thriller films and may not be excited in watching it. This is an disadvantage as these age groups will not be watching our thriller film. Another type of target group that might watch our thriller film are group of people who tend to go to the cinema. These type of people may be interested in watching the thriller film. This means that when making the thriller film it was important that we attract this type of group. In order for the target groups to watch our thriller film we had to make sure we have the correct conventions to make the audience feel very exciting and feel the tension in the film.

The audience will enjoy the conventions and the emotions such as the love affair, cliffhanger rand flashbacks and many more, this will lead the audience to wanting to watch more as they are engaged with the film. We made sure that we chose the right conventions to help and follow the expectations the audience want. We made sure that we found the correct type of thriller that relates to our thriller. This was an advantage as that would help my group and I see what type of target audience we will have.

I made sure that I included in my questionnaire, a mixture of open, closed and multiple types of questions as it allows the people who I have given the questionnaire to write down their opinions on different thriller questions. This helped me as the questionnaire give me ideas of what I should or should not include or what the audience will find entertaining or attractive.  This was beneficial as the correct audience that will watch our thriller film. This was also beneficial as we will take actions from these feedback we get.

Questionnaire
(Thriller specific)
1)What are the main themes in a crime thriller?
2)What would you include or not include if you was to create a thriller movie?
3 What should not be in a film that is rated 15?
4)List the main clichés in a thriller that bore the audience
5)Do you prefer a male over a female ad a victim? (Yes or no)
6)  Are you for or with censorship?

The questions are multiple, and open as they let the readers think about what they want or expect in a thriller movie. This questionnaire was useful as it lets me know what the audience  want and if there is any useful ideas that I can out in the film. The multiple question lets the person think of what option to pick so I can have an idea of what the audience prefer. This will  My group will make sure that we won’t include anything that might harm or influence the audience and only include appropriate things for a 15 rating, as our film will be a 15  rating. For example what would not be appropriate in a 15 rating is self-harming or rape. But what can be included in a 15+ is frequent swearing and violence.

This questionnaire shows what type of questions we have asked the audience. This is an advantage to see what the audience expect in our thriller film and what we should avoid. If there isn't a questionnaire than as a group we would not have a clue of what the audience like in a thriller film. This is beneficence for me as i can see the importance of a research and collecting the right data.
