Research: Scream Analysis- Mr.s

Scream analysis
Scream' was created  the 1996, and is recognized for its The opening scene of 'Scream' is conventional to thriller because it includes mysterious killer who wears a mask. The opening of 'Scream' grabs the audience attention by using mise-en-scene, editing, sound and cinematography.

Mise-en-scene

Costume: When i watched the opening scene of 'scream' i saw the white clothing o the female character and instantly realized that she is a innocent character which made me create sympathy and vulnerability towards her. The character was being attacked by her killer who was wearing black cloak which contrasted her white clothing. This represent the "good and evil" just by telling the clothing. Also the villain was wearing a mask that would hide his identity. This makes the character very mysterious and also makes the audience engage even more by plotting who it is. The female character boyfriend clothing was used to create stereotype by wearing a football jacket and jeans to present his "jock" status. Lighting: this helps create the mood of 'scream' through manipulating, lighting makes extremely distinct impact. In the opening scene the intensities helps to create a suspenseful mood which will make the audience engage. A lot of the scene was soft lighting and high key lighting, then the  hen both of the bodies are revealed to the audience after being mutilated, hard lighting is present to bring out the details in the horrific murders. The lighting used too show the murder of the victims boyfriend was low angles which reveals his features, both side ad back lighting, but does not not revel the whole body in details just the main features. The lighting has grab the attention to a particular object, person, emotion or gesture, Editing: the timing between each are vital to create tense opening scene. . A variety of close up, long and tracking shots are used when edited together to create an understandable narrative. When the girl found out about the killer the editing turned faster and the shots was quick. Body-language: it is important too have the right body language to create feeling towards the character such as the girl in the scene is weak and she looks fragile as she doesn't know what to do. She also shows that she doesn't know what to do with the killer as she is running around the house. The Iconography and setting can give the audience a lot of imagination and ideas of whats happening in the movie. the iconography in the opening scene are knife, popcorn and telephone. The setting is in a house.

sound: there are sounds such as parallel was used when the women was screaming when being attacked by the killer. Off screen sounds is used when the bell was ringing, i know it is off screen because we cant see it but it makes sense. On screen sound was used when the popcorn was being cooked.

Cinematography: the camera movements such as  reaction/zoom shots are to capture the changes in the character for example when the victim changes her mood and facial expression when the killer on the phone scares her. The camera movements such as tilt shows the main objects in the house to give signs to the audience on whats going to happen and there

are several off long shot when she is running around the house away from the killer.

  1. This seems a bit rushed as there is a lot of spelling/punctuation mistakes and quite a lot of your sentences don't make sense...
Camera Angles and Editing seem to be a bit short and also missed off digetic and non digetic sound too!
Also no conclusion to your work - how can you take what you've learnt from this and apply it to your own work?
